Permanent Makeup Pre & Post Care
Proper preparation and aftercare are an important part of achieving the best possible healed results from your permanent makeup.
Please review the instructions for your service before your appointment and follow the recommended aftercare throughout the healing process. Your skin type, lifestyle, medications, health history, and how closely aftercare is followed can all affect healing and pigment retention.
Below you'll find pre-care and aftercare instructions for Nano Brows, Nano Combo Brows, Ombre Brows, and Lip Blush.
If you're unsure whether a medication, treatment, skin condition, or recent procedure may affect your appointment, please contact us before making any changes to medications or your normal medical care.
BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT
BROW PRE-CARE
Nano Brows • Nano Combo Brows • Ombre Brows
For the best possible skin condition and pigment retention, please follow these instructions before your brow appointment.
2–4 Weeks Before
Avoid Botox or other cosmetic injections near the treatment area for at least 2 weeks before your appointment.
Avoid chemical peels, laser treatments, microneedling, or other aggressive skin treatments around the brow area before your appointment. If you are unsure whether a recent treatment will interfere with permanent makeup, please contact us.
Do not arrive with sunburned, irritated, peeling, broken, or compromised skin in the treatment area.
1 Week Before
Avoid retinol/Retin-A, exfoliating acids, scrubs, and other strong active skincare directly around the brows.
Avoid waxing, threading, tinting, or other brow treatments immediately before your appointment. Your natural brow growth helps with designing a shape that works with your existing hair.
24–48 Hours Before
Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours before your appointment.
Avoid excessive sun exposure or tanning.
Stay hydrated and arrive with healthy, intact skin.
Day of Your Appointment
Avoid excessive caffeine before your appointment, as it may increase sensitivity.
Avoid strenuous exercise immediately before your appointment.
You may arrive with your normal brow makeup on if you'd like me to see how you typically fill in your brows. It will be removed before your procedure.
Please eat before your appointment and arrive well hydrated.
MEDICATIONS
Certain medications and supplements may affect bleeding, bruising, healing, or pigment retention.
Do not stop or alter any prescribed medication for a permanent makeup appointment unless instructed to do so by the healthcare professional who prescribed it.
If you take blood-thinning medication or have concerns about whether a medication or medical condition may affect your procedure, please speak with your healthcare provider and contact us before booking.
BROW AFTERCARE
Nano Brows • Nano Combo Brows • Ombre Brows
Your brows will go through several changes during the healing process. This is completely normal.
Following your aftercare carefully helps protect the treated skin and gives your permanent makeup the best opportunity to heal evenly.
DAY ONE
First 10 Minutes
Allow the sealant applied at your appointment to soak in for approximately 10 minutes.
Do not touch or wipe your brows during this time.
After the First 10 Minutes
Begin gently blotting your brows with a clean tissue every 10-15 minutes, or anytime they appear shiny.
This helps absorb excess lymph and oil from the surface of the skin.
Do not rub or wipe back and forth.
First Cleanse
Approximately 1–2 hours after leaving the studio, gently wash your brows using the antibacterial soap provided to you.
Wash your hands thoroughly before touching or cleansing your brows.
Clean gently in the direction of the natural hair growth rather than rubbing back and forth.
Rinse with a small amount of clean water and gently pat completely dry with a clean tissue or paper towel.
Repeat your cleansing routine before bedtime.
What to Expect on Day One
Your brows may appear:
-
Darker than expected
-
Bolder or thicker than the final result
-
Slightly red or swollen
-
Warmer in color
This is normal and temporary. Your brows will soften significantly throughout the healing process.
THE NEXT 10–14 DAYS
Cleansing
Wash your brows gently morning and night with the antibacterial soap provided.
Always wash your hands before touching your brows.
Clean your brows outside of the shower so you can control the amount of water they are exposed to.
Wash in the direction of hair growth rather than scrubbing back and forth.
Rinse gently and pat completely dry.
Ointment
Apply approximately a rice-grain amount of the provided ointment to the brows morning and night after cleansing.
Less is more. The brows should not look heavily coated or greasy.
Too much moisture can interfere with the healing process.
Continue this routine until flaking has finished.
Save your remaining soap and ointment—you may need them again for your perfecting appointment.
WHAT TO EXPECT WHILE YOUR BROWS HEAL
Day 1
Your brows will appear darker, bolder, and possibly thicker than the final healed result.
This is normal. The brows you see immediately after your appointment are not your final result.
Days 2–4
Your brows may be at their darkest and boldest.
You may notice some warmth or a slight reddish tone in the pigment. This is intentional. Brow pigments may be warm-modified to prevent the healed result from becoming overly cool or ashy.
The warmth will soften as the brows heal.
Days 5–10
Light flaking or peeling may begin.
Do not pick, peel, scratch, or pull at the flaking skin.
Allow your brows to exfoliate naturally. Removing flakes prematurely can pull pigment from the skin and may contribute to uneven healing or scarring.
Days 10–15
Your brows may suddenly look very light, patchy, or as though some of the pigment has disappeared.
Don't panic.
A thin layer of newly healed skin can temporarily make the pigment underneath appear much lighter.
Days 15–30
The pigment will gradually become more visible as the skin continues to heal and settle.
Your brows should begin looking softer and more defined again.
6–8 Weeks
Your brows are ready to be evaluated once the skin has fully healed.
At your perfecting appointment, we can assess pigment retention and make adjustments to color, shape, hairstrokes, or shading where needed.
Some clients retain pigment extremely well and require very little adjustment, while others may need more refinement. Healing and retention vary from person to person.
WHAT TO AVOID WHILE YOUR BROWS HEAL
For approximately 10–14 days, or until all flaking has finished, avoid:
-
Sweating
-
Avoid strenuous workouts and activities that cause excessive sweating.
-
Steam & Excessive Heat
-
Avoid saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs, and very steamy showers.
-
Swimming
-
Avoid pools, oceans, lakes, and other bodies of water.
-
Direct Sun Exposure & Tanning
-
Keep healing brows out of direct sunlight and do not use tanning beds.
-
Makeup on the Brows
-
Avoid applying makeup directly over the healing treatment area.
-
Active Skincare
-
Do not apply retinol/Retin-A, exfoliating acids, scrubs, chemical exfoliants, or other strong active skincare directly to the healing brows.
-
Picking or Scratching
-
Never pick at flakes or peeling skin. Allow everything to come off naturally.
-
Excess Water
-
Do not allow the brows to soak or remain wet for extended periods. Clean them only as directed.
-
Once all flaking has finished, you may gradually return to your normal activities.
LONG-TERM BROW CARE
Permanent makeup will gradually fade over time. Your skin type, lifestyle, skincare routine, sun exposure, and other treatments can all influence how quickly this happens.
Once your brows are completely healed, apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ when exposed to the sun. UV exposure can contribute to premature fading and changes in pigment color.
Be cautious with retinoids, exfoliating acids, chemical peels, and aggressive skincare directly over your permanent makeup.
Always tell your provider that you have permanent makeup before receiving laser treatments, chemical peels, or other advanced skin treatments near your brows. Certain treatments may alter or fade cosmetic tattoo pigment.
LIP BLUSH PRE-CARE
Healthy, hydrated lips provide the best surface for Lip Blush.
1 Week Before
Keep your lips well hydrated with a simple lip balm.
Avoid picking, biting, or peeling dry skin.
If your lips are severely cracked, irritated, sunburned, or have an active sore or lesion, your appointment may need to be rescheduled.
24–48 Hours Before
Stay well hydrated.
Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours before your appointment.
Avoid excessive sun exposure that could leave your lips irritated or burned.
Avoid aggressive exfoliation immediately before your appointment.
Day of Your Appointment
Arrive with clean, healthy lips.
You may bring a favorite lip color or inspiration photos if you have a particular shade in mind. Your final pigment will be customized based on your natural lip tone, skin tone, and desired result.
Please eat before your appointment and arrive well hydrated.
IMPORTANT: COLD SORES & LIP BLUSH
Lip procedures can trigger a cold sore outbreak in individuals who carry the herpes simplex virus.
If you have ever experienced a cold sore, please speak with your healthcare provider before your appointment about whether preventative antiviral medication is appropriate for you.
Do not attend your appointment with an active cold sore, blister, open wound, or other infection around the lips.
Please contact us if you are unsure whether your lips are healthy enough to proceed.
LIP BLUSH AFTERCARE
Immediately after your appointment, your lips will appear brighter, darker, and more saturated than the final healed result.
This is normal.
Your Lip Blush color will soften significantly during healing—typically around 30–40%—and the final result cannot be judged from the color immediately following your appointment.
Keep Your Lips Clean
Always wash your hands before touching your lips.
Follow the cleansing and aftercare instructions provided to you at your appointment.
Use only the recommended aftercare product while the lips are actively healing.
Keep Them Moisturized
Apply the recommended aftercare product as directed to prevent the lips from becoming excessively dry.
Do not use unapproved lip products while the skin is open or actively peeling.
Do Not Pick
Your lips may become dry, flaky, or peel during healing.
Allow the skin to shed naturally.
Do not pick, peel, bite, or pull at loose skin. Doing so can remove pigment and interfere with healing.
WHAT TO AVOID AFTER LIP BLUSH
During the initial healing period, avoid anything that unnecessarily irritates, contaminates, or exfoliates the lips.
Avoid:
-
Picking or peeling
-
Lip scrubs or exfoliation
-
Retinoids or exfoliating acids around the lips
-
Swimming, hot tubs, and saunas during initial healing
-
Excessive sun exposure
-
Applying makeup directly to actively healing lips
-
Sharing lip products
-
Kissing or other direct contact with the lips while the skin is freshly treated/open
Follow the specific instructions provided at your appointment regarding eating, drinking, cleansing, and product application during the first few days.
LIP BLUSH HEALING
Days 1–2
Your lips will appear significantly brighter and more saturated than the final result. Mild swelling or tenderness can occur.
Days 2–5
The lips may begin to feel dry, tight, flaky, or lightly peel.
Allow this process to happen naturally.
Days 5–7
Most visible flaking should begin to subside. The color may look significantly lighter than expected.
Following Weeks
The color will continue to settle and gradually become more visible as the skin completes its healing process.
Do not judge your final Lip Blush color during the first several days.
WHEN TO SEEK MEDICAL CARE
Some temporary redness, tenderness, or swelling immediately following permanent makeup can be normal.
However, symptoms that worsen rather than improve should not be ignored.
Contact a healthcare professional if you experience symptoms such as:
-
Increasing or severe pain
-
Redness that continues to spread or worsen
-
Increasing swelling or warmth
-
Pus or unusual drainage
-
Open sores or significant blistering
-
Fever or chills
-
Other symptoms that concern you
If you are ever unsure whether something you're experiencing is part of normal healing, please contact Tori Celina Beauty. If symptoms suggest a possible infection, allergic reaction, or other medical complication, seek appropriate medical care.
